The Treasure of Cooking | Teaching Children Life Skills Through Food

Being both a Tamil teacher and a cookery guide is a unique joy. Language teaches expression, and cooking teaches connection and when both come together, magic happens. Each week, as we enter the cookery room, it feels less like a classroom and more like a lively kitchen at home.

Children arrive excited, ready to explore new tastes and textures. We focus on healthy, organic ingredients our farm vegetables, simple grains, natural spices. So that children learn to appreciate the richness of traditional food.
We begin preparing together by peeling, chopping, grating, measuring and all done with patience and care. Even small tasks like chopping onions or grating carrots become opportunities to teach focus, safety, and teamwork. And every step is done with love, the most important ingredient of all.

Children learn not just recipes, but also the values behind food: sharing, gratitude, hygiene, sustainability, and the joy of eating together. They discover that cooking is not just a skill – it’s a celebration of life, family, and culture.
Once the dish is ready, we all sit down to enjoy it together. The smiles, the laughter and the pride on their faces as they taste what they’ve made – it’s truly heartwarming. The food is always tasty, not just because of the right mix of spices, but because it carries the warmth of teamwork and joy.

This journey in the kitchen is about much more than food. It’s about growing life skills, emotional intelligence and cultural awareness in the most natural and enjoyable way. That’s why I call it “*The Treasure of Cooking” It’s a treasure we create and share, one meal at a time.

“Cooking is not just about recipes, it’s about creating memories, sharing love, and discovering the true flavour of togetherness.”
